Program Highlights - Kings Mountain Elementary School

Kings Mountain Elementary School is a small elementary school in the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD). The school serves approximately 70 students, kindergarten through fifth grade, in three multi-age classrooms (K/1, 2/3, and 4/5).

The school’s small size and multi-grade classrooms provide a flexible and nurturing educational environment for its students. Kings Mountain School was awarded a Distinguished School Award from the State of California in 2008 and 2014. The the school continues to be committed to academic excellence and good citizenship.

Curriculum Highlights

• Bridges Math, Problem of the Month, Youcubed, and Math Talks

• Teachers College Reading and Writing Workshop with student publications in the school newspaper

• Dedicated science teacher offering a specialized, hands-on curriculum based upon Harcourt, Full Options Science System (FOSS) & Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) for grades All Grades, K-5 
  

• One to one chromebooks for all students
  

• Arts Wheel: Each trimester a new arts program, 1st trimester: culinary arts, 2nd trimester- music arts, 3rd trimester-fine arts 

• Weekly Art In Action classes, taught by trained parent volunteers, with art exhibits to display student work, for all grades

• School-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs: Second Step, Changing Perspectives, Responsive Classroom

• Dedicated, district-appointed Physical Education instructor for grades 4/5

• Non-competitive, skills-based Physical Education program for K/1/2/3

• Educational field trips
